About Florida In A Box

When Christine Carrizales moved to Florida in 2006 from her native state of Connecticut, she brought with her romantic notions of life in The Sunshine State. She envisioned a lush, tropical oasis where flamingos lazed under palm trees, and seashells lined every garden path. In her vision of Florida, locals picked fresh oranges from backyard trees and enjoyed a glass of hand-squeezed juice on the veranda each morning under the watchful eye of a nearby parrot. Conch fritters, soft-shell crabs, boiled peanuts and key lime pie would surely appear on every restaurant menu. Or so she thought.

It was a rude awakening when Christine settled in a South Florida community whose landscape is filled with highway overpasses, big-box retailers, strip malls and fast-food restaurants. What had become of the Florida of yesteryear? Did it still exist, or had it vanished forever?

Christine set out on a mission to find the authentic Florida flavor that she yearned for. She began visiting family-owned shops and restaurants, citrus groves, palm tree nurseries, the Everglades, and a wildlife sanctuary to acquaint herself with the state’s people, foods, fruits, plants, animals, and traditions. She was thrilled with the unique items she uncovered. Family and friends were delighted when she shipped her discoveries North as birthday gifts.

So began the idea for Florida In A Box, a new, family-owned, mail-order catalog company that for the first time brings hard-to-find, Florida-themed products to residents of New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. From cooking products to sweets, home decor to stationery and greeting cards, Florida In A Box transports a bit of Florida to people who visit the state only seasonally or on a rare vacation. Northerners in the clutches of a harsh winter will delight in the chance to sample key lime juice, nibble a coconut patty or smell the sweet aroma of a citrus candle. Snowbirds will find they no longer need to wait for winter to enjoy a taste of Florida.

This attractive, quarterly catalog will be designed by award-winning, San Diego-based designer Miko Radcliffe and her graphic design agency, Drawing a Crowd. The catalog will feature a tasteful assortment of high-quality merchandise. Product descriptions will be written by a professional writer who will convey the distinct characteristics and unique flavor of every item.
